Steam Train Extravaganza to the North coast of N.S.W.

The Lachlan Valley Railway along with steam engine 5917 (Fifty Nine Seventeen)will be operating a huge program of steam hauled tourist trains,  between the 11th and the 29th  of June, on the north coast of N.S.W. Many communities are eagerly awaiting for the steam train to arrive, as it’s been over 20 years since steam has visited many parts of the region.

The 5917 steam engine will be visiting Kempsey, Grafton, Casino, Coffs Harbour and Wauchope over the period. A detailed timetable is listed below, listing timings and days and towns visited.

INDICATIVE TIMETABLE IS AS FOLLOWS:

THURSDAY 11/6/2009 -  5917 departs Sydney at 4.20 am for Kempsey, stopping at Strathfield, Hornsby, Gosford, Broadmeadow, Maitland (take coal and water), Gloucester, Taree  and Wauchope, before arriving at Kempsey at 5.34 pm. (tickets are available for this trip, or part there of as well)

FRIDAY 12/6/2009 – 5917 and train departs Kempsey at 8.45 am for Grafton, stopping at , Macksville, Coffs Harbour,  and arriving at Grafton at 12.32 pm.

SATURDAY 13/6/2009 – Four local shuttle trips from Grafton station to Kyarran depart at 8.30 am, 10.30 am, 12.30 pm and 2.30 pm. An evening dinner trip to Casino departs Grafton Station at 5.30 pm arriving at Casino at 7.26 pm. After a break, the train departs Casino at 9.40 pm, and arrives back at Grafton Station at 11.29 pm.

** ENJOY AN ON BOARD MEAL IN AN AUTHENTIC  DINING CAR **  Passengers on the evening dinner trip, have the opportunity to experience a sit down table service on board 3 course meal, served by waiters in an authentic dining car. There will be 2 sittings, both numbering 48 people each. The first sitting will be as the train departs Grafton just after 5.30 pm, and the second sitting will be around 8.30 pm. The exact menu will be posted here at a later date. The prices for train travel and meal will be $70.00 per person, or for train travel alone the fare will be $30.00.  Passengers who choose the fare only option, will have time at Casino to make their own arrangements.  The dinner option will be offered strictly on a first come basis, so book early to avoid disappointment.

SUNDAY 14/6/2009 -  Four local shuttle trips from Grafton Station to Kyarran depart at 8.30 am, 10.30 am, 12.30 pm and 2.30 pm.

THURSDAY 18/6/2009 – 5917 and train will depart Grafton at 7.30 am for Casino,  arriving there at 9.20 am. Two local shuttles from Casino to Kyogle will then be run departing at 10.25 am and 1.30 pm.

FRIDAY 19/6/2009- Two local shuttles from Casino to Kyogle depart at 8.15 am, and 11.30 am. 5917 and train then departs Casino at 2.15 pm for Grafton Station arriving there at 4.03 pm

SATURDAY 20/6/2009- 5917 and train departs Grafton at 6.35 am for Coffs Harbour, arriving there at 8.18 am. Two local shuttles to Raleigh will then be run departing at 9.00 am and 12. 30pm. Also, two shuttles to Coramba will be run departing at 10.40 am and 2.55 pm. 5917 and it’s train then departs  Coffs Harbour at 5.43 pm for Grafton Station, arriving back there at 8.53 pm. – PLEASE NOTE:  At Raleigh and Coramba,  as there is no passenger platform at these locations, whilst  the engine changes to the other end of the train,  passengers will have to remain on board for safety reasons.

SUNDAY 21/6/2009 – 5917 and train departs Grafton at 6.35 am for Coffs Harbour, arriving there at 8.18 am. Two local shuttles to Raleigh will then be run departing at 9.00 am and 12.30 pm. Also, two shuttles to Coramba will be run departing at 10.40 am and 2.55 pm. 5917 and it’s train then departs Coffs Harbour at 5.20 pm for Grafton  Station, arriving back there at 8.14 pm. – PLEASE NOTE:  At Raleigh and Coramba, as there is no passenger platform as these locations, whilst the engine changes to the other end of the train, passengers will have to remain on board for safety reasons.

WEDNESDAY 24/6/2009- 5917 and train departs Grafton at 7.02 am for Kempsey, arriving there at 10.30 am. Two local shuttle trips will then be run, one to Kundabung at 11.50 am, returning at 1.15 pm, and one to Telegraph Point at 1.45 pm and returning to Kempsey at 4.14 pm. – PLEASE NOTE:  At Telegraph Point and Kundabung, as there is no passenger platform at these locations, whilst the engine changes to the other end of the train, passengers will have to remain on board for safety reasons.

THURSDAY 25/6/2009 – 5917 and train departs Kempsey at 8.25 am for Raleigh, arriving there at 11.24 am. The train then departs Raleigh at 11.45 am for Macksville, arriving there at 12.30 pm. After a short break, the train then departs Macksville  at 1.50 pm for Raleigh, arriving there at 2.53 pm. After a short break, the train departs Raleigh at 3.40 pm for Kempsey arriving back there at 5.14 pm. – PLEASE NOTE:  At Raleigh, as there is no passenger platform at this location, whilst the engine changes to the other end of the train, passengers will have to remain on board for safety reasons.

FRIDAY 26/6/2009 – Two local shuttle trips from Kempsey to Eungai will be run, departing at 8.25 am and 11.15 am, before 5917 and train departs Kempsey at 3.10 pm for Wauchope, arriving there at 4.30 pm.

SATURDAY 27/6/2009 – Three shuttles from Wauchope to Kendall will be run departing at 8.15 am, 11.55 am, and 3.50 pm.  Also, two shuttles from Wauchope to Telegraph Point will be run departing at 10.05 am and 1.16 pm.  – PLEASE NOTE:  At Telegraph Point, as there is no passenger platform at this location, whilst the engine changes to the other end of the train,  passengers will have to remain on board for safety reasons.

SUNDAY 28/6/2009 – Three shuttles from Wauchope to Kendall will be run departing at 8.15 am. 11.55 am, and 3.50 pm. Also, two shuttles from Wauchope to Telegraph Point will be run departing at 10.05 am and 1.16 pm. – PLEASE NOTE:  At Telegraph Point, as there is no passenger platform at this location, whilst the engine changes to the other end of the train, passengers will have to remain on board for safety reasons.

MONDAY 29/6/2009 – 5917 and train departs Wauchope at 8.10 am for Sydney stopping at Taree, Glouster, Dungog, Paterson, Maitland and Gosford, before arriving at Sydney at 8.52 pm. (tickets available for this trip or part there of, as well)
